Sprint Palm Pre — Short ‘n sweet Review

Well, decided to get the HTC EVO. Out of stock, so I got the Palm Pre until available.

First impressions:
-really snappy, fast, intuitive.
-multitasking is amazing

In-Depth:
I really, really love this phone. Thinking of keeping it instead of getting the EVO. Especially after increasing the clock speed from 500mhz to 800mhz, the thing blazes. It does everything I need it to–I wish there was a newer version out, with a better camera/video capture and playback. Also a model design would be welcome, I don’t like the ‘egg’ look too much–but I do like the hardware keyboard.

The screen (320×480) looks absolutely brilliant. I am a fan of higher resolutions–and that could be fixed in the next version with a bigger display. I’ve seen a lot of cell phone displays and this one jumps out at ya. Looks really nice.

Pros over windows mobile:
-I can click through so many things so fast on the Pre whereas on my old Touch Pro2, I would have bogged down the device so fast–even just text messaging someone is really fast.

Compared to Android:
I’ve been dabbling with Android for awhile–I really like Android, but it seems kind of boring to me. WebOS notifications are similar to Android’s which I really like.

Pros over everything:
Like I said, I really like the multitasking. The card system is incredible. Just swipe up, see ur open apps, swipe that up and closed. I can open and close a dozen programs in mere seconds. Super awesome–And super responsive.

Conclusion:
I’ve always like Palm and their cell phones. There usually is just one thing I don’t like about each handset since back in the Treo 700wx days. For this one, they made the hardware switch for volume on or off not actually be on or off. Videos/music/others will still play sound, which one could argue is a feature, but I disagree. I’m honest when I say I want to keep this phone.

Welcome improvements:
-Native on-screen keyboard.
-Bigger/higher resolution display.
-Better hardware keyboard (not use to the small Palm one yet, but when I am I’m sure it will be fine).

well.. my next mobile handset is otw

Palm Pre and Touchstone

Palm Pre and Touchstone

So… I can’t wait to get my next phone. The Palm Pre. I know, I know, it sounds noobish to venture out of Windows Mobile land and try a whole new OS, but you have to stick with the new sometimes. I don’t know how much I’ll like this phone, but I know I’ll love the Touchstone device.

The touchstone is the hockey-puck like device you see in the image above. This device is a charger for the Pre and all you have to do is set your Pre on the device. The puck has strong magnets in it to secure the Pre down and charges through induction technology.

This is taken from the article at palminfocenter.com (http://www.palminfocenter.com/news/9684/palm-touchstone-hands-on-impressions/) to give you some features the Touchstone is capable of to give you an idea:

As initially referenced by Rubinstein and Colligan, and detailed further by various Palm reps, the Touchstone is an “intelligent” cradle. For example, if a user is talking on their Pre and sets it down on the Touchstone, the phone will switch to speakerphone mode. Accordingly, If a call is received while the users’ Pre is docked on the Touchstone, the user can answer the call and have it automatically answer when picked up. It can also auto answer and jump right into the speakerphone if you prefer to leave it rest on the dock. Do note that no actual speaker or microphone is built into the base of the Touchstone, it’s all handled by the Pre via some clever software integration.”

I’ll let you know when I’m finally Pwning with device, as I do not know the release date as of now. Good Pwning to all.
